Joppa – Jericho Covered Bridge – This bridge is the last covered bridge standing in Harford County, built in the early 1800’s. Legend has it that several lynching occurred at this bridge during and after the Civil War, in which the captured people were hung from the upper rafters, sometimes many at a time. If you stop your car on the narrow bridge late at night, and look in your rear view mirrors, the image of a swinging body can be seen.

This is the story my friends and I checked out. We went late at night during winter, it was November/ December if I remember right of 03, this past year. 1st my friend went without me and told me how there jeep wouldn’t move off a 2nd bridge. They found this bridge while looking for the one above, this was an old iron bridge big enough for one car. I’m not sure of the name of it, but it was over the falls and was fairly old. They stopped on the bridge and when my friend tried to drive again his jeep wouldn’t start! Then if you look down to your right to the river you can see what appears to be a soldier hunched over on a horse, the horse looks back at you and you can see his eyes and he contiues to walk. If you keep driving and look to the left into the fields you will notice someone walking along. They are dressed in what I guess could be civil war era clothing. The whole time you see numerous orbs and what not. Then we contiued to look for the Covered Bridge and found it. On the way to the bridge you could hear whispers in the woods and see what looked like cigarettes being light. Once again you saw plenty of orbs. Remember this is late at night in a very off the road area without street lights and lamps. During one point I glanced out my window and saw a face right next to my car window! Needless to say it scared the crap out of me. Then we reached the bridge and drove through, turned off the lights and checked to see if we could see anything and we could! We actually saw 2 bodies, perhaps 3 hanging. From under the bridge we could see a light that appeared out of nowhere. Each time we went through we saw the bodies and all you see really are the legs, the lower half. If you try to look for more you simply won’t see anything. My friends have gone back numerous times and on the last trip after they did the bridge, someone appeared behind the car and was chasing them. It just seemed to be a faceless being. I don’t know what else you would call it. I hope you find this story interesting. Everything seems to be more “awake” during a cold night.

The following are even more Scarier :

    1. i have been to the covered bridge several times and have expierenced things I know were real. The strangest thing I have seen there was probably when I was about 17(I am 22 now) My friends and I would go and play Ouijji there(being silly) We have always seemed to have gotten a boy named Will. He told us that his father was a slave owner and that he had fallen in love with a young slave that eventually bore his child. He said his father was so furious that he had shot him and hung the girl and burned her, and then threw the baby off the bridge. We did not know the area well, but our “ghost” had repeated a number over and over on the board….we asked if it was a date, or year…all was no. He spelled out Black gate….and dig. So I thought this is stupid….lets just drive around and look for a black gate. So we did and oddly enough we turned into Vanderbilt ct. to turn around. In that court is a house with a black iron gate that surrounds it. The address on the mailbox was the number displayed on the Ouiiji. I get tears in my eyes just re-living that night because it was the scariest thing that has ever happpened to me. We have also heard drums, people singing, seen what looks like cigarettes being lit. And my friend at I saw a woman standing right next to the car. The Ouijji was so cold that you could actually see the cold coming off of it. I have never seen anyone hanging, but after all of this I don’t really think I want to. I know that place is haunted….but if you ever come in contact with Will, he is very nice.

    5. I was at the bridge last night at 1:00am with two friends. I was dropped off on one side while they drove through. On their way through the bridge I took pictures then walked through the bridge myself. I felt at ease, no cold spots or any other indication anything was wrong. After I met up with my friends on the other side we started taking pictures of the bridge. We got the rafters, took pictures inside and out, and we had a video camera. After about 30 minutes of going in, under, and around the bridge, nothing happened. Two of the pictures did show something though. One showed a white orb in the bridge, and the other showed a kind of mist and what looked like white traces zig zagging in the lower left corner. I work second shift and often drive through the tunnel on my way home form work and I have NEVER seen anything or felt any kind of presence, and I’ve been looking. While we definitely got evidence of something, I think this story has been blown out of proportion over the years. I also have a friend who told me that when he was in high school for a laugh he and his buddies would “hang” themselves from the rafters to scare people driving through the bridge. This probably added to the popularity of the story. Sorry, but I think the stories are bull shit, people were probably stoned or tripping and think they saw things.

I was up there last night and we drove around for awhile through the bridge and out and nothing happened and we didnt see nothing. The last time we went through we stoped and shut out our lights int he bridge honked are horn three times and looked back and didnt see anything,After we turned our lights on we looked up and in front of us on the side of the road was a man with long black hair staggering like he was drunk or sumthin. His clothes were all raggedy and torn and he didnt look up at us once witch was weird cause my boyfriend fliped out and slammed on the gas acting like he was goin to hit him to scare him and not once did he look up or run.If that was me I would have then when I looked back right after we passed him he was gone.I dont know what to call it or even if it was real but it freaked me and my boyfriend out lol.We also got alot of big orbs on video and voices that sound like wispers.I dont know what it was but it was freaky.

    7. People will only believe in ghost or supernatural when they personally meet up with them. I started to believe since I encountered ghost 15 years ago in Japan. In this 15 years, I have seen ghost twice, one in my client’s dorm & another in hotel.

    8. I went to the covered bridge with my 3 friends one night because we had been there before and woundered what would happen if it was later at night..We sat in the car with the engine turned off but the keys still in the ignition, we were all dead silent when I notice a shadowy figure and saw something dripping..My friends all saw the exact same thing..It wasn’t raining but the front of the car was hit by drops of water..In a panic I insisted him to turn the car on and drive…when he attempted to the car wouldn’t start.so he tried again and it still wouldn’t start..finally it did and we drove off..As days went on thing were happening..We saw figures of Slaves standing on the side of the road staring that disapeared. One morning 2 days later my sister was freaking out swearing she was seeing ghost that wanted to harm her..and one day i looked at my arm there was a burn that spelled out a “safe” and after that nothing weird happened..untill we decided to return to the bridge..as we drove closer my friends suddenly got sick and threw up everywhere..she was throwing up blood..shes fine now..but the oods of her throwing up blood randomly and being fine the next day scared us…soo we didn’t go to the bridge that night..

    9. I can assure you that not a single person in our group was stoned or tripping when we saw what we did. I believe that not everyone is open to seeing Ghosts and Spirits, that only certain people are “allowed.”

    10. It’s bullshit. The bridge isn’t haunted. The only thing that happens there is the imaginations of a bunch of kids and twenty somethings getting the better of them. It’s not Scooby Doo people. Where did everyone hear of these “legends” of people being lynched and slaves/ ex-slaves being hung from the rafters? The story of the bridge burning down and a little girl’s image being “etched” into the bridge structure, by the heat of the fire, is bullshit too.

What evidence does every one have that the bridge is haunted? Every picture I see is of an orb. Orbs do not indicate paranormal activity.

    12. OK, I live in a very close proximity to the covered bridge and have lived there all my life (22 years). I just want to put to rest this silly rumor about the bridge being haunted. Since I\’ve been young my friends and I, several who also live very close, would have bonfires in the woods next to the bridge and have been in and around the bridge at all times of night. I have never once seen any strange things happen in the covered bridge, except for a lot of dumbass kids trying stupid tricks, like the turn your lights off and honk one, in the bridge and we always just think its funny. I think that this site is even more hilarious because so many guible people really do try these things and believe the liars telling these stupid rumors. So, furthermore everyone can stop claiming to see orbs and figures or anything else unusual.

    13. HOLY SHIT! Me n my guys went to the bridge on friday the thirteenth to hang fake bodies from the rafters and to jump out at passing cars. We parked our cars down the street and started to walk back when we started to hear whispers and voices that sounded kinda like a little girl.None of us really acknowledged it at first cause we didn\’t want to seem like pussies but then we started to smell burning and started to get really freaked out when we couldnt see any fires or any smoke anywhere. when we were hanging the ropes from the rafters to try to scare people, we shined our flashlights to the rafters and briefly saw a dark figure crouching on the beam and holding onto a rafter. we freaked out and almost chickened out but since we only saw it for a second, we decided to keep going with our plan. we heard a car coming and saw headlights so we went to the side so we could jump out and scare people. The car drove away too fast so we couldnt prank them, but it was getting late so we decided to head home. when we were getting the rope down from the rafters it seemed to be caught so my friend pulled the rope as hard as he could and ended up falling on his ass! the scary part was when he got to his feet and had a couple of drops of blood or something on his shirt . we were all like dude, did you get a bloody nose? and he was like, yeah, i guess so. when we got back to the car, he went to wipe his nose, only to discover that he wasnt the one that was bleeding. to this day we wont go back because of the things we saw. everytime we get together we find more in common with the things we saw and heard there that night.

    14. Last night we returned to Jericho Bridge at 11 pm in the rain. We turned onto the road, and passed the bridge. Since there were too many cars to stop then, we turned around and went back. On the middle of the bridge, we stopped the car, rolled down the windows, flashed the headlights and tapped the breaks. Assuming that the bridge again had failed to produce any sign of a haunting, we began to laugh and turned the car back on. As soon as we did so, we both heard a blood-curdling scream of a teenage girl. All other noise ceased at that very moment. Naturally, we sped away. After relaxing for ten minutes and trying to understand what had just happened, we returned to the bridge and did the same thing. No scream. I believe that if it was anyone trying to scare us, they would have screamed both times. It took multiple visits to the bridge to produce any signs of a haunting.

    16. Memorial Day Weekend me and some family members decided to take a little trip to the Jericho Bridge the night before me and my sister-in-law decided to do some research about the bridge. The next night we decided to go to the bridge once again. With our flash lights in hand we walked up towards the bridge while the “men” went to turn the vehicle around! Once we got up there we started recording… you know asking the normal questions “Is anyone here would you like to speak to us Blah Blah Blah.” After we recorded for a while we asked the “men” to come back they picked us up and we went to review the tapes. On the first recorder we heard “you again” then it sounded like something growled in the recorder. We turned the vehicle around and went back to the bridge this time with almost everyone. My brother-in-law Bob decided to come with us this time and walk up to the bridge. Once again we started recording. We got back into the vehicle and Bob seen a black figure walk into the woods near a road sign. Needless to say me and my sister in law just looked at each other because the night before when we were researching the bridge we found that some people have seen a Black figure walk across the road into the woods and we were the only ones up that night when we did some research!!!

I turned off the car, not expecting anything. We talked for a minute about stories we had heard, and then decided to leave. When i tried to start the car, it would not start. This continued for a couple minutes and it finally started. I believe in that 100%

    20. Being from Bel Air, when I was 16-18 (I’m now 27), my friends and I made trips to the bridge somewhat regularly. Hell, if I had a date, I’d take her there to freak her out, only so she’d want me to hold her.

I believe in ghosts and spirits, but I don’t believe that this bridge is haunted. I have been to this bridge 100s of times with different people, and never once has anyone seen anything. Sure, you get a little bit of a creepy feeling, but it passes (kind of like when you’re home alone and the phone rings suddenly).

We have proof of it in recordings as well as in photographs. I myself have captured a picture of a ghost on the bridge its just I dont know how to post it up on here!!!

    29. I have not been to the bridge in a very long time due to the fact that I can not get anybody to go with me. Probably about 3 or 4 years ago, there was a Summer where a group of friends and myself would go to the bridge late at night, it was a habbit. I was there in the evening when it was still light out my very first time going. We parked along the right hand side of the exit of the bridge (the section of road that gets windy and narrow towards the homes that are back there) and walked through. Nothing happened, but when I got to the other side of the bridge there was a skeleton key laying on the little concrete wall area before the wood of the bridge actually begins. I wanted to take the key and maybe figure out what it belonged to but the person I was with suggested that could only stir up trouble. I left the key alone and we walked the path at the beginning of the bridge set off to the left. Apparently there is a story about a hermit who used to live back in those woods and would eat hikers, and now his ghost remains and would chase people away. Curiousity and all…so we went investigating. There is a part of the trail that curves down towards the water. At this part I felt completely at ease, the air was neutrial in temperature, there were not noises, no wind, the sun was shining straight down through the trees, it was total peace. I have debated the possiblity of this being a faery circle. Further back on the trail we came across a section of overgrown weeds that seemed to be covered a cubby of sorts in the bushes, once we got close to this section we began hearing noises like footsteps in the woods and they were getting louder and closer the longer we stayed, so…we quickly left and headed home. Some friends of mine have done automatic writings at the bridge, we have placed flowers at the edge only to have them hangging upside down and dried within the hour, heard screams, had hand prints display on our vehicles, seen shadow figures, and things of that nature. The bridge has quite a tragic history which I imagine is what has caused it to be such a strange place to visit. I am an amateur paranormal investigator and have investigated a lot of the bed and breakfasts in Havre de Grace along with some places out of state, e-mail me if you have any questions.

    30. Alright, i have never seen any ghosts or spirits on the bridge, but i did see something very weird. I was with my GF at the time and it was a Thursday night and we were bored and just felt like driving around. We decided to drive through the covered bridge, we had done so many times in the past without seeing anything. It was about 11:30 i would say and when we got to the bridge there was people all over it. They were like older guys, i dont remb seeing any girls or anything. They were all wearing white and were just sitting on the railings on the side with books in their hands/laps. I drove through real slow and a couple of them just ooked up at us and waved slowly. I drove away kind of freaked out a bit but had never seen anything spirit-wise.

Ok, me and my friends went down to the bridge. this one bitch was so scared she wouldn’t be left alone in the car. so my friend stayed with this black kid in the car, hopeing to get some. so it was just me and this and and this girl, we walked the trail, i got bored, didn’t see anything or hear anything, they started smoking and i got bored and went to investigate the bridge. i walked through the bridge a couple of times didn’t see or hear anything, only got a creepy sort of feeling. so i went and looked under the bridge, didn’t see or hear anything down there. so i went back up to the bridge, took some pics on my cell, nothing interesting in the pix. we drove off back home disappointed we didn’t see anything. maybe it was just a bad night? you cant always force a ghost to appear.

    33. My best friend and I just went to the bridge tonight. It was an incredibly creepy night because there was SO much fog and the moon was an eerie orange-tinted crescent moon. We arrived at the bridge and stopped the car in the dark of the bridge for a moment. It was unsettling just because the environment was so eerie. I was not liking it very much to be in the dark stalled in the bridge because it was very confining. I convinced my friend to pull the car so that the back half was in the bridge and the front end where we were sitting was out. We waited a bit, looking back every so often, but saw nothing. We also tuned our car radio to a static-filled AM station to see if we could catch any odd noises or perhaps even an EVP, but nothing happened. The whole time I was on the phone describing the events to a friend in NY and he said that it sounded as if someone kept walking by and breathing or even cars that kept driving by…. but I heard nothing on my end. After we drove away he said the noises stopped. Overall, there was nothing there to convince me of any paranormal activity, although the environment itself was indeed unsettling.

My friend who accompanied me this evening to the bridge has visited a few times before. She never saw anything on any of her visits except for one, in which she was accompanied by a friend whom she claims “attracts paranormal things.” On that trip, she claims that while she and this friend were on one side of the bridge, another friend was on the other…. and above that girl they saw a large black body-shaped object swaying. The girl near the shape soon saw the object and the three sped off in fright. I hope the next time I visit will be more eventful, but nothing to permanently scar me for life!

I have seen a shadow figure at the bridge also. It was standing though, inside the bridge with one leg up against the railing that’s there on the side. I was actually going to try to contact the owners of that bridge to see if I couldn’t get in for an official investigation…would be very interesting!

    36. I’d be careful about calling out to spirits on the bridge. Unless you have done it before in other locations and know what you are doing I think it’s sort of risky. Then again, it doesn’t seem like anything has been happening at the bridge in a while so you might be okay. Just make sure you are well protected.

    53. Its been over 7 years since I have went to the bridge. But back in 97 – 2k0 my friends and I would go to the bridge and hang out, and try to get spooked. I guess its a maryland thing to do. So, after reading many posts of everyone, I can tell you what I have heard. I heard they used to hang witches from the rafters, And also, there is a house on the right side of the road, with stone things around it, is supposededly where the witches lived.

The story about the little girl, I am unsure, but I have heard that a woman has killed herself and her baby, by trying to escape her crazy husband by jumping over the bridge. Either way, there are numerious stories about this bridge, and the area is defenently haunted, but don’t know from what.

The only thing I have experienced is that the car has not started before, And that a man was walking ont he right side of the street once with a flash light, and then disappeared afterwards within a split second.

Under the bridge was a cartoonish devils picture. Thought it was pretty funny and cool. But if theres anything now, then I have no clue. If anyone has any goodies about joppatown, and surroundings, please email me at DJNAYSHUN@GMAIL.COM I would be interested in gathering up a group to go out and get spooked.

    54. There are a lot of stories about this bridge along with a lot of people who claim to have had experiences. It’s in a historic area and if you do some research on Google and what not you can learn more about the area. The bridge was used to hang slaves, and the original bridge caught fire, a new one was build over the old bridge instead of taking it down and starting from scratch. There is also rumour that in the 70’s a hermit lived in the woods and would kill then eat hikers. There is a trail to the left of the bridge which is supposidly the area the hermit roamed. Not sure about the little girl who supposidly died there, or any of the other stories, but I have gone up there several times. Sometimes got spooked, sometimes nothing would happen. I do paranormal investigations around Harford county am run a paranormal chat/group via MySpace and have never heard much more than people seeing hangging bodies or hearing voices at the bridge. It is an interesting place and addictive to visit.

    57. My girlfriend and I went there last night. We parked in the middle of the bridge and drank some beer. After awhile, we fell asleep. We both woke up to a scraping sound on the driver side door and a terrible odor. I looked out the window – afraid to open the door – it was pouring rain and windy. My girlfriend screamed and pointed out the back window. Somehow a mime had set up a spotlight and was performing the classic man in a box routine. Needless to say, we took off like a bat out of hell.

    61. I am 15 years old and other night when i was hanging out with my good friend we wanted our guy friends to pick us up and we decided we wanted to go to the cover bridge,it was about 10 o’clock at night, now i have never been there, my friends did tell me when they did go there they stopped their car in the middle of the bridge and turned off their car and light, they honked the horn about 3 times and they said they didn’t see anythingg but when they wanted to turn their car back on it did not start for a while. Therefore i do believe stuff and ghost are there, now for me i did go to the bridge for the first time, i second guest my self but my friends told me to suck it up, so i pulled through and did go. we parked the car in a parking lot and walked and walked down to the bridge, i was waiting for something to happen but i did not experience anything unusal. It was very quiet and i did hear the water underneath us, we walked through the bridge up and down, still didn’t see anything. we wanted to walk back so we did, i looked back a couple times to see anythingg once again. When we got back in the car my friends speed monitor did stop working, now i don’t know or think that has to do with anything about the bridge but still it is the thought that counts. Even though i did not see anything, i am going to go back another weekend and we are going to put the car in the middle of the bridge and we are going to stop it and honk the horn 3 times and if i do see anything i will post another comment ! (:

    62. ive been to the bridge awhile ago when i was about17 (22 now) And i can def. say in my opinion and what ive exsperanced this place is def. haunted. The first time i went I was with my ex, and 2 friends. When we got there i thought “there is no way in hell im going in this bridge” the bridge has NO lights on the road and the only light there is, is if the moon is out. So i decided to stay in my car hoping my friends would decided to stay with me. Well this didnt happen. My ex and my 2 friends left me in the car and went into the bridge. I turned on the inside light to my car cause i was scared something would peer into the windows and scare the shit outta me. I could see the flashlights my friends were carrying in the distance in the bridge. Then all of a sudden i started hearing banging on my car. first a bang here and there. So i thought it was my friends messing with me. Then all at once it sounded as if 15 people or so were all around my car banging on the roof, the sides, the back, the front. I started to scream and cry “stop stop stop” I kept telling myself it was my friends but since it was hard to see out the window due to the light I couldnt tell who it was. Then i did see the flashlights still in the distance. I started to cry relizeing it wasnt my friends. Once my friends returned to the car i had told them what happened and they said they didnt even hear me scream. A few months later i built up the curage to return to the bridge. My ex, 2 friends, and myself returned to the bridge once again. This time i forced myself to go into the bridge. When we got to the bridge we looked at the end of the bridge on the right hand side and could see what looked like a man leaning on the inside of the bridge. After staring at him long enought he moved….then we moved more deeply into the bridge. We stood in the middle of the bridge and became quite. We listened and i could hear whispering all around us. I could hear movement, as if someone was walking around in the bridge. Once we got to the end of the bridge we looked back into the bridge before walking back throught it to return to our car we could see what looked like a body hanging in the bridge just swinging back and forth. Then we walked back through the bridge. And returned to our car. This is one of the most scariest places ive ever been too. This place is truely haunted. I plan on returning for more exspances soon!

    63. Anyone ever notice that all of the recent stories from the brdige consist of people not having any experiences but knowing the old stories or telling us about old experiences they had when they were kids? It’s like everyone has heard so many stories about the bridge and know the history of the place that they go up expecting something to happen. So maybe things do still go on up there and people go up there expecting the things they’ve read about to happen or just something big and don’t recognize the small stuff going on. I’ve had some strange and down right terrifying experiences at that bridge, the woods next to it are particuarly creepy. Apparently a hermit used to live in there and kill/eat hikers back in the 70’s. Who knows, but there is a heavy feeling in the woods, and if you can get right down along the water to the left of the bridge during the day, I have experienced what seemed to be a faery ring. It just seems that maybe we are looking for too much at this place anymore.

    74. Okay so my friends and i when we are bored we all drive up to jericho bridge just to get a few laughs out of everyone. Everytime we go over the bridge nothing happens.

So the other night my friends took me to the abandoned factory right by jericho bridge. well its creepy as hell but when your with a bunch of people its fine. There was 8 of us and we only had 1 flashlight, so i stayed with the girl in the front with the flashlight. we went in pretty far and everyone else chickened out and headed back, except for courtney and i. So we went in a little farther and decided to freak the others out. So we screamed and turned off the flashlight. Well while we were standing there in the pitch black dark, i swore i heard footsteps coming close. I started freaking out and told courtney to turn the light back on. She thought i was joking so she was laughing. Then all of a sudden it felt like someone was going aound us in a circle, then courtney started screaming and ran. I wanted to go further but she ran away with the light so i ran too. When we got out she said after i told her i head something she got cold and felt what i felt. it was hella scary.

So 2 nights later we went again but this time everyone went in and we even went downstairs and upstair. It wasnt as scary this time cuz we had lots of flashlights and a lot of boys to protect us. but once we got upstairs we heard a big boom so i was like thats it im getting out of here. So we headed back and had to walk at least a mile on the road that has the jricho bridge on it. On our way back to the car my friend started freaking out because she swore she saw a baby in a diaper walking toward her. we thought she was just joking but she was scared out of her mind. I dont know but there is something haunted around that area. I would so go back though, thats just who i am. I love being scared.

    76. Very interesting stories, it appears most people are hearing whispers (also known as running water) and their cars are failing to start – this can either be the case that yankie cars suck? …=) or that whilst you are being all tense and scared you are flooding the engine from pressing down ‘the gas’. From a engineering point of view this is the main thing that would cause 1-2 mins of startup failure.

If you read stories before you go to the bridge you will most likely imagine alot of stuff, especially with people on here lying and making it appear even ‘scarier’. Bear in mind that as a human you are inate, and so able to place ANY image/sound you want into your mind and 100% convince yourself its real.

    79. I have never read stories about this bridge. When I was about 17yrs old, me and my ex and friends were just driving around, and we came upon this bridge. And we went through it and had a feeling of someone watching us from all sides of the car. So we kept going up the road and turned around at the stop sign. Drove back down towards the bridge, and before we got to the there we heard nosies and seen orbs and seen odd figures of people walking around. Once we got into the bridge something came out in front of the car and we stopped and it was a figure of a little girl and a faint white dress, it freaked us all out. And since I am really into this ghost thing and have been for many years, it was something I wanted to get into, so we kept coming back to the bridge almost every night and every night it was kinda different. We sat on one side of the bridge for hours and seen things happening in the bridge, things you would never see anywhere else. Even the little girl started drifting up to our car and stopped at the trunk and just stood there and stared at as. All i am saying is if you really believe in ghost and this kind of thing you will see something always. This is no joke, I am 28yrs old now and I still get images of all of these sightings that i have seen at this bridge.

We finaly found the bridge at about 12:50 this morning. We were coming up the road with all of the old houses there is a single light at the front of the bridge so we drove on in weparked in the middle of the bridge and as the ledgend goes u turn ur car off honk 3 times look in ur rear veiw then turn around and u are suposed to see something so we did it seen nothing there were two cars coming twards us so we went up the road to turn around when we came back there was a car the same car that we had just moved for in a ditch we stoped as well as the other car wich was folowing them because they were a group every one was ok the mans house that the car was in front of came out side and said u need me to pull u out like he had done this b4. he pulled his truck around and eventualy got 3the car out of the ditch. When the path was cleared we continued to the bridge passed through and turned around so we would b facing the right way for the ledgend.so we pulled on to the bridge parked again honked looked behind than turned foward and waited there was a flash from bhind we all turned around there were 3 men im guessing some kind of black hooded robes my girl friend was sitting next to me and by the time she said go i already started the car and pealed out it scared the hell out of me. and the weird thing about all of it is when we went back up the road to where the car was in the ditch there was no car no tow truck an no friends that were following we were shocked by what just happened so we called it a night by the way that was about 4:30 am so some how we spent 3 and a half hours doing what we did thsi was my true story about jericho cover bridge i will most deff be back there soon so if ur in for some good old scary moments with ur friends i say u go there is no dought u will expeirence something.

Ishmael said,”If you come near the flag, then I will shoot you.” when they charged over the house, Ishmael shot the confedarate souldier & was able to escape his house & he ran into the woods, & was never seen again. after that, some people burned his house down. now there is a story about that he appears at certain times, with a shotgun pointing at you, as if he will shoot you. then if you turn around to see it, he dissapears. creepy, idnt it? :)

Well I recently discovered where this bridge is and started taking my kids there. I have never experienced anything unusual there until tonight!

I picked my oldest daughter up from her Grandma’s house around 6:30pm where she lives off Stockton Rd near Jerusalem Rd. I had sometime to kill so I asked her (my daughter) where we can take a drive to and she said the “Covered Bridge”. So we drove down Jerusalem Rd and turned on Jericho Rd. Immediately on the right is an old stone building that looks like it was a church that fell apart many years ago. I pulled over next to this building and asked my daughter to roll down her window so I could shine my flashlight out her window at it. We looked for about two minutes then decided to continue towards the bridge which is only about 300 yards away. As soon as I pulled away from this spot I noticed on my side of the car was a girl standing on the other side of the road (about 10 feet from me) up against the tree line. I moved past her going about 3 miles an hour and my head followed her as I drove past her and her head followed our car. She looked like an average young women around 18-30 yrs of age. She was solid and my first thought was that she was just a girl who was out with some friends and they must have scattered when I pulled up and she was just waiting until I left to join her friends. So I continued to the bridge and after I drove through I made a quick u-turn and went back to see if she was still there. However when I went back there was no sign of her or anyone. I drove back to that spot a couple more times but not a sound or sight of anyone around. I wished I stopped when I saw her and asked her what she was doing just to make sure she was real.

Has anyone else had a similar sighting of this girl around this area? It was dark and cold outside and have a hard time believing a girl would be all alone in the woods at night in the cold. She was on foot and no cars were parked near this area.

    89. it’s off of jeruslium rd in baltimore county and yes it is true and the best time for anything to happen is about 3 am eit gives the spirits time to build up strength and able to show them selves and for those to sit there and say all you see in pictures are orbs that is true for any real picture if it even comes out most times you only get a orb

    92. My friend and I just went to the bridge last night around 12:00. As we got closer it started to rain (coincidence?) Also, we had the radio on and a few things things we heard were “you’re going to heaven tonight.” and something about “destiny.” So immediately we turned it off. By the time we got there it was still raining and thundering/lightning. We turned the car off as well as the lights and waited. We couldn’t see much (it was hard to see), but we could smell something burning. We thought at first it’s probably one of the houses around it with a fire going or something. But, we both started to get headaches. We also felt as if someone or something was there. Therefore, my friend tried to turn on the car. It couldn’t for a minute or two then it did so we left. While we were leaving, the rain slowed down then stopped (another coincidence?) I can’t say it’s haunted just for the one time so we might go back tonight and take pictures or something.

    93. I have been to the bridge several times. driven through it stopped on it walked down the road trail next to the bridge. I am pretty sure it’s haunted. sometimes nothing happened . other times really really creepy things went on. one time walking with my friend on the road approaching the bridge we heard rustling. not a rabbit racoon or fox. it was something big. right next to us we listened and stomped our feet it wouldn’t leave. when we looked more it was a horse in the field eating right behind the brush. so now we felt safe and continued to the bridge. there is a path along the side that leads to the water. we walked down and stood under the bridge. we heard what sounded like a real deep hum. it was seperate from the water rushing. it was like a bass drum. the woods around the bridge are scary too. pitch black . there are new light near the bridge which makes it far less scary then it was before. another time leaving i slammed on my brakes when i thought a deer ran in front of me. as we all looked it looked like a weird deer/fox scampering across. it was very scary and strange looking. not scared of us just trotting across. the woods and road itself around the bridge are scary. noises and quick shadows are all around . bumps and bangs whispers I have heard them all.

    94. If you drive another couple minutes past the bridge you will come to a 90 degree right hand turn. right on the corner is the abandoned Rubber Factory. it was closed in the late 90s early 00s. it looks like it was closed in the 80s though. shut down due to leaking oil into the little gunpowder which runs behind the factory. when the MD environmental agency was investigating this apparently a manager hung himself in the basement. the factory is huge with several floors and different buildings. trespass at your own will. it reminds me of pictures of Chernobyl. now if the bridge doesn’t convince you of a haunting go to the factory.

    95. I’ve had a craving to go back to the bridge, despite how cold it’s gotten out. Haven’t checked it out during the day yet, but I would think if there is activity it would be present day or night. That and the woods are the only places that aren’t clearly marked off to the public so I don’t think going to the rubber factory is on my agenda. Last time I went to the bridge was about 6 years ago and a state trooper nearly arrested me just for being on the grounds after dark. That entire area is considered part of a state park.

    97. I have 3 horses in the field just beyond the water. Some of you have probably seen my flashlight shining (not orbs) sorry – we don’t have electrity in the barn. But I’ve seen/experienced a couple weird things. On a night ride just around the property I saw a man watching me come around the corner (I thought it was a bush from a distance but as I got closer there wasn’t a bush or a man there). I was also standing just inside the door of the barn during a major downpour, trying to stay dry until it passed. I got shoved hard out into the rain and sunk passed my boots into the mud. I thought it was one of the horses trying to scratch their face on me so I turned around to shove her back and all of the horses were still locked in their “stalls”.

    98. Me and 3 friends of mine went last night at about 11:30. We were on the bridge and we turned off the car. We heard voices from under the bridge over the water rushing. My friend saw something swinging in the rear view mirror which really freaked him out. When we were ready to leave the car wouldn’t start so we all were scared. It was a fun experience and we will definitely go back.

    99. I used to pass through with family from Harford Co all of the time when I was younger, but since I really never thought about looking for anything strange then, this past year my friends and I went up there at night to check it out. We stopped, rolled down the windows, listened to the bridge creak, we even yelled out to the “spirits” and nothing. Honestly, the road after the bridge is the scary part, and not the side that goes back to Bel Air RD. But all in all, it was fun. I’m definitely going back, I wanna see the stuff you guys are seeing. For now, I think some people are just dramatic.

    100. Okay so yesterday me & my friend went to the covered bridge with a couple of other friends. We parked at the old stone building & decided to take a couple pictures. In the background we found some orbs & we saw what looked like a face in the back too. Me & my friend Devon decided to walk all the way down to the bridge , our other friends were too scared to go down because they thought they would get hurt or something. Anyways as me&devon walked down we heard what sounded to be footsteps in the woods. We also saw what looked like cigrettes being lit. Anyways our friends were driving in the car behind us . So after being at the bridge for a little we got back in the car & drove around a few more times. We got to the metal bridge & instantly it became cold in our car . Everyone got an eerie feeling & a feeling of dread. We went back to the old stone house. This time when i wanted to walk down , everyone (Cayden, Devon , Julz , Paul) came down too. We were all slowly walking down&then a car stops & rolls down the window&asks if we are going to the bridge&we said “yeah” the people in the car said they were suprised that we were because we are only just teenagers&my friend Cayden says “Well niggas tryna get scared”&they laughed&said “HAHA. I love this kid” anyways we continued walking down&another car stopped us, it was a guy in his 30’s with his wife or girlfriend , i dont know. He said that he lived around the bridge & he asked us if we had heard or seen the girl yet & we didnt know what he was talking about , he said that she has a blood-curdling scream or sometimes she will laugh or you can hear her humming. He advised us not to go down there without flashlights but we thanked him & said we would be fine & that was the end of that. Anyways we finally got to the bridge & we were just standing around. My friends Julz & Paul said that they heard humming , a couple of my friends also heard it once Julz & Paul told them to be quiet & listen. After that My friends Heather & Ande drove back down&picked us up. I told them to honk the horn & flash the lights. At first , nothing happend but after a few minutes when we gave up hope we saw 2 darker mists hanging from the rafters. It wasnt a solid figure it was just a black mist. After that we drove around one last time & then we decided to leave & that was the end of our night.

    101. So last night, me and a couple friends were hanging out watching ghost shows. My friend lexie and her family had gone to some haunted places before and told us about Jericho bridge. A few of my friends were all kinda skeptic, but not after what happened. We had come on this website before-hand, so we already knew what to look for. I had heard that people can see orbs in the background of photos so i brought my camera. We drove across the bridge, like 10 times. Lexie was all excited and wanted to walk down to the bridge, so we parked by the old stone building. I decided to take a couple photos, so i had my friends stand in front of the building. In almost all of the photos, you could see a very distinctive ball of light, later on we identified it as the orbs. This was just so cool, that i took a lot of pictures of alomost everything. After we convinced the scared “men” to come with us(devon, lexie&me) walked down to the bridge. Along the way we heard what sounded like footsteps in the woods, but me and my friend Paul just shook it off and said it was animals. When we got to the bridge we stood underneath and we all felt a sort of peace there. The smell of the wood and the sound of the water was just so peaceful that i forgot where i was. A car came through and honked at us, i was pissed so i banged on their window. The guy eventually caught on and tried to leave, but i could tell he was freaked because his car wouldnt start. It took him a few tries, but he got it to start eventually.

We had driven around the bridge a few times, so we drove to the metal bridge a little while away. Whle we sat there, cayden thought it would be “funny” to taunt the ghosts and call them devils. I immediately felt something cold and sticky drip, down my leg. i was freaked but i didnt tell anyone, i just shouted at him to shut up. Every once in a while, me&paul would hear what sounded like humming, it was like a very high pitched “ooo” and i felt chills almost immediately.

When we came back to the covered bridge, and we tried the “honk and flash your lights” thing. We saw nothing at first but when we were about to drive away, paul was really pale, so i followed his gaze and saw what looked to be bodies hanging from the rafters. You could only see the bttom halves but it was still creepy. Needless to say, it was a pretty eventful night.

    103. Bunch of clowns leaving comments… I live in the area and I drive through there all the time- day and night. At first it was scary to drive through alone because of all of the scary stories, but after the second or third time I realized it was just a bridge. My friends and I even walked down Jericho rd and across the bridge- no sightings or strange sounds. At one point, I was left alone on the bridge that night- nothing happened then either. To hide from DNR we even went under the bridge. Nothing out of the ordinary. We took pictures of each other- no orbs or strange effects. It was fun, not scary. My friend has been left alone there before to wait for a ride- nothing happened.

And as far as the factory down the street- there’s not much scary about that either. The whole area is sketchy at first because until you see houses, you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere but it isn’t that serious. Honestly, the bridge connecting vinegar hill rd and franklinville is creepier at night. It’s really close by. It’s fun to jump off of when you’re swimming, too. But I wouldn’t recommend that because it isn’t very safe.

But anyway have fun ghost hunting- we did but as fair warning I should tell you you won’t find anything

    105. I recently learned that a $ 2million restoration project has been approved. I find this ridiculous….can’t the county put that $2million some place where it would actually do some good … Just my opinion.

    106. I live in Baltimore and have been to this bridge 100s of times. I strongly believe in ghosts and have had major experience happen to me and i think i am pretty sensitive to the afterlife, so i thought i might see something here. This bridge is not haunted in anyway… i think its the imagination of the people traveling through it. think about it… why would a ghost show its self because you honked your horn and turned your car off. there is a road around there (turn left instead of right towards the bridge) that is extremely creepy and you can get some good images of “things” in the woods and some very cold spots. you can also hear talking or whispers and foots steps. but not by the bridge. dont believe the stories, they are not true.

    107. For those of you NON-BELIEVERS, you are entitled to your opinion. But…I have lived near and been to this bridge MANY TIMES AND that bridge is HAUNTED. OUR BODIES ARE ONLY VESSELS TO CARRY OUR SPIRIT. THE BODY DIES, NOT THE SPIRIT. THERE is NO NEED to be MEAN. I do believe you have to be truly open minded to experience this and certain people just arent.

We heard nothing, saw nothing. I turned the car off, flashed the lights 3 times, beeped the horn 3 times. you name it
we ran across the bridge, we walked through the bridge, we looked into the woods

      NOTHING
when we went to the mansion, I heard footsteps in the woods next to the back driveway to it, sounded really close.
