  • Previously B from Maryland had a ghost encountered at Jericho Covered Bridge. Shannon. T has a same experience at the same place. Thanks to Shannon for submitting this story.

I have been to the covered bridge several times and have expierenced things I know were real. The strangest thing I have seen there was probably when I was about 17 (I am 22 now) My friends and I would go and play Ouijji there(being silly) We have always seemed to have gotten a boy named Will. He told us that his father was a slave owner and that he had fallen in love with a young slave that eventually bore his child. He said his father was so furious that he had shot him and hung the girl and burned her, and then threw the baby off the bridge. We did not know the area well, but our “ghost” had repeated a number over and over on the board….we asked if it was a date, or year…all was no. He spelled out Black gate….and dig.

So I thought this is stupid….lets just drive around and look for a black gate. So we did and oddly enough we turned into Vanderbilt ct. to turn around. In that court is a house with a black iron gate that surrounds it. The address on the mailbox was the number displayed on the Ouiiji. I get tears in my eyes just re-living that night because it was the scariest thing that has ever happpened to me. We have also heard drums, people singing, seen what looks like cigarettes being lit. And my friend at I saw a woman standing right next to the car. The Ouijji was so cold that you could actually see the cold coming off of it. I have never seen anyone hanging, but after all of this I don’t really think I want to. I know that place is haunted….but if you ever come in contact with Will, he is very nice.

The following are even more Scarier :

    1. i never have been there before but my brother and his g/f went there the other night and their friend was behind them in his car well my brother turned his car off and honked his horn 3 times then he said that he saw a guy walking across the front of his car and the guy was limping and looking down at the ground and my brother said that the guy looked like he had no face. Then my brothers friend said that he was looking forward and then he looked to the side of his car and saw someone looking in at him. If anyone has had a similar thing happen to them please send me an e-mail that subject says jericho covered bridge please thank you!!!!

    2. My new husband and I used to go to what we called “The Bridge” in Jericho Village just about every night for a year. We started out a bunch of kids hunting for ghosts but we ended up going whenever we had nothing better to do. Because we visited so frequently we know just about every road in Jericho and to be honest all of Kingsville. In all that time I have only witnessed two things that I cannot explain. The first was when me and a couple of friends drove down there for the first time and parked on the covered bridge to see what would happen. My friend and I were in the back seats and we both heard distinct bangs on the doors. First my side then hers, then mine again. The strange thing was the people in the drivers and passangers seats did not hear a thing. At that point we got out and looked around the car and the bridge but there was nothing there. The next time a bunch of us went so we had to use two cars. we drove pass the covered bridge and were on our way to the open iron bridge I named The Blue Bridge when our friends in the car in front of us got stuck in some mud (it had been raining). We decided to leave that for another night and turned around to head back. My Friend and I were the only ones driving in the second car so we followed again. Right wen we got to the part of the road where it gets bendy and there are gardrails on the right it got so foggy we had to stop the car meanwhile the others were driving away in front of us. When it started to clear a little and we started to drive I looked out the window and noticed what I thought was red paint on the gardrail. When we got closser I noticed there was a black figure standing behind it (I know it sounds cliche’). Of course I started freaking out and too this day I hate passing that spot. I am a firm believer in the paranormal but i have been in that area and walked those streets over a hundres times and all I have are these two stories and both happened the first couple times I was there so it makes me wonder if there is any activity still there. If anyone has any recent storries please share them. Oh and does anyone know what that old gated factory is down there? Ive been trying to find out for years.

    6. a couple of my friends went last night at about midnight and were just hangin out taking pictures, but when they looked at them on the computer they say things. On one of the pictures of our friend Dave there is what looks like to be a snake head opening its mouth about to eat him. On the other pictures you see A LOT of orbs and such. and One of the girls that was there said when she got home it looked like she had a bruise from a noose, and my other friend said it looked like something had cut his wrist.

    8. like rich said, used to be a rubber mill…me and a couple of my friends went to check this place out…needless to say there r laws against tresspassing, but we said screw it. That place is MASSIVE, there r like 3 different floors to the factory. We searched most of the 2nd level and there r blood staind prints everywhere on the wall. At one point, we saw some markings saying “she is watching u” and i gotta ask…who is “she”? We got up to the 3rd level but didnt have time to keep looking. This all took place in the day but we plan to make a night trip at some point and finish our investigation. We didnt look in the basement, we wanted to save that for the night trip. And we saw alot of papers and documents dating back to the 1960’s…more specifically…1963.

    9. I actually used to work at Belko as a summer job and needless to say, that place is definitely weird, and I’m talking about the hillbillies that used to run it. There is a basement that is all rocks and water and apparently from one of the elder employees there, someone hung themselves down there. There is also a lot of wild (loose) dogs that roam the place so I recommend if you do any exploring taking something to protect yourself. I have also seen the “she is watching you” and apparently, according the guy who worked with the man who hung himself, mentioned something about being watchd before he did the deed. He, as well as I, just chalked it up to him being a nut bag, until I came across that on the wall, but just assumed the man wrote it. I know it is shut down now, but I had the privledge of roaming the place and one thing is for sure, the basement of that joint is freaky as hell. Belko made grommets, elevator wheels, lacrosse balls, and pretty much anything rubber. Probably one of the best paying worst summer jobs ever. I hated my boss Cliff. Son of a bitch. LOL.

    10. Does the water down there ever evaporate. We took about 3 steps in and couldnt go further because the water was so deep in some places. But while down there, we heard sound come from the second floor, like someone walking around up there.

    14. Jericho Covered Bridge, Joppatowne, is the last remaining covered bridge in Harford County , Maryland. The 100-foot (30 m) long bridge is supported by a timber beam Burr arch and clad in cedar boards. It was built in 1865 and restored in 1982.[1] Local legends say that several lynchings occurred at this bridge during and after the Civil War, in which the victims were hung from the upper rafters, sometimes many at a time. This has given rise to a number of urban legends and local superstitions relating to the bridge

    15. Me and 3 friends went to the Jericho covered bridge tonight. It was around 1:30am when we got there. I started freaking out cause of all the stores i’ve read about it. As soon as we came to the entrance I asked them if we could leave. We pulled right in the middle and my friend turned off the car and his lights. I remember reading that you are to turn around or look in the mirror and see a “hanging body.” I did that, and saw nothing! So then my friend who drove and my friend in the passenger seat got out, and started walking through the bridge and making freaky noises. So my friend and I decided to beep the horn 3 times! We heard nothing!! We saw a car coming so my friend quickly got in the car to move it out of the bridge–leaving our other friend on the bridge. We went up the road and turned around to get him. I was just really scared so once we gathered him, i begged to leave. BUT nothing occurred!! I was kinda disappointed we didn’t see anything. I guess it’s all just urban legend…….

    19. Okay, so I went there tonight with my friend and her older sister at around 11:30. We turned off the car and honked the horn three times. About twenty seconds later, we heard tapping on all sides of the car. I heard my LOCKED car door open, so I reached out to grab it and close it. As I was closing it, I felt something pulling it open, and I heard a really wierd noise that sounded like a growl. I closed the door, and the trunk flung open. This was extremely strange, because you could only open it with keys, there’s no handle. We felt something punching against the back seat from inside the trunk. We tried to start the car, but it wouldn’t start. Finally, the tapping stopped, and the car turned off. NEVER AGAIN.
