Great make up artist I don’t think it is for real. there are a lot of great special effects artist. anyone could have made this and thrown it into the sea for it to be wash up on the shore

Very interesting though. I have no comment on this matter. Seems to be real. However, in order to proof the supposedly mermaid its need to be sends to a lab for further analysis. At the moment personally I consider this image cannot be accepted as true because lack of supporting data until it’s proven scientifically as true. However if it is true definitely it is something amazing to see.
Commented by Augustine Towonsing — July 30, 2007 @ 10:01 pm
As much as I would like to be believe mermaids are real I still just don’t have enough evidence. The picture do look real but then again somebody can always use special equipment ot make it look real. Then if mermaids are real you would think it might beblown up all over the world.

Yes. If mermaid doest really exist it will definitely blown up all over the world. However, in this case we cannot say that it is true because lack of supporting evidence. The simplest way to have scientific evidence for this mermaid mentioned is to send it to a lab for X-Ray to see its biology conditions. If the X-ray confirm there is no other foreign ‘objects’ within the carcass of the dead mermaid mentioned than it is considered scientifically confirm as genuine. However, we have not seen the supporting evidence here. Therefore, at the moment we just consider this image as one of the intelligence digital image.

There is an old trick dating back as far as the 1800′eds that looks very much like this one. They used to sew together bodies of monkeys and fish to create these so-called “mermaids”. I can’t tell for sure if this is such a case, seeing the face looks very humanoid. It’s probably just a scam. It looks almost identical to the scam mermaids from that era.

Commented by pepe — August 11, 2007 @ 5:09 am
Images of humanoids like this have been floating around for ages, and as Brittney said, they look very similar to the old scams. The only disturbing thing about it is that the face seems much more humanoid then the scams.

I do not think its real. The hair looks like a fake one.Mermaids are not so ugly looking. They r myth and superb beauty.I will wait for a real mermaid…….
Commented by Lisamermaid — August 11, 2007 @ 9:30 am
I didn’t realize the sea could mummify something so quickly, ya know, with all the water washing around all willy nilly, hydrating things. that looks like it must have been washed up for at least a year and dried out perfectly.
Commented by Winterkill — August 12, 2007 @ 3:51 am
HAhaha… more nonsense.
Commented by Dingdang Bananafarts — August 12, 2007 @ 9:10 am
Lisamermaid: salt water will actually dehydrate a human, as the concentration of salt outside of the cells in the blood (if the salt water is consumed) will be much higher, thus the cells sacrifice water to try and dilute the salt concentration in the blood so it can be removed from the body. If someone were to die in the ocean, the saltwater would dehydrate them - however it would not mummify them like that picture. Seeing as this is supposedly a mermaid, the salt water would not dehydrate them…. considering they live in the salt water anyway…. you wouldn’t need xrays, or a lab to confirm or deny this myth. A close up look at this ’specimen’ would reveal tampering. If thats not too simple, bone structure and other physical characteristics could be looked at to determine if either half belongs to a known species. If that fails, a DNA test would show if the top part were primate. If the DNA differs too much from the genomes of humans and the various primates that have been completely sequenced, then maybe you’d have a mermaid.
Commented by John — August 12, 2007 @ 3:35 pm
It would be a merman - looks like a male.
Whoever made this though did quite a good job.
Commented by Danuve — August 13, 2007 @ 1:45 am
This is a fake. It’s from asia. And mermaids don’t exist, sorry to break it to you. The only mermaids that exist are girls that have legs and live by the ocean. That’s way better than having a smelly fin and living in salty smelly dangerous water. .. same goes for fairies. Humans cant have insect wings… humans already are fairies, only without the wings. And as for elves.. yeah dwarfs exist.
Commented by Esme — August 13, 2007 @ 6:35 am
I have seen this same image time and time again…and time and time again it has been debunked as a simple hoax. You can tell by the closeups that the skin was probably painted, the torso could be made up of small animal bones or something, with the dried fish tail pasted on. Not that convincing. Nice try though.
Commented by Angel — August 30, 2007 @ 11:49 am
I’ve seen this picture before on a hoax site and I honestly don’t believe its real.
Commented by Casey — August 30, 2007 @ 9:22 pm
It’s a fish tail attack to a monkey torso. The hair is probably from another animal. I saw this is Ripley’s.

Commented by Aristotle — September 27, 2007 @ 9:20 am
Okay people. If it is real, then why is it coated in SHELLAC?? Remains do not become brown and shiny by themselves.
Also, if it WAS a creature in the ocean and it died, why didn’t something eat it? Why didn’t the saltwater corrode it? Hmmm . . . .
Commented by MW — September 28, 2007 @ 7:18 pm
Well it could very well be true, you never know other islands have some pretty weird stuff going on….not only that, mermaids had to come up from somwhere otherwise we wouldnt be talking about them and saying they’re a hoax and there’s no such thing…..

This is just how the supposed mummy fairy looked like. It is pretty cool how they made the body look. Very creative and props to the artist who did it. The tabloids most likely ate it up.

Looks like meg is the one with no life if all she can do is b*%ch about people arguing on the internet. If she does not like reading such things to fill her dull life up than why doesn’t she stay away from places like this. After all, this is here to post comments and that is what everyone is doing.

I give props to the creator of this merman, the media really knows how to get peoples attentions, and they do a really good job in doing so. It was not so long ago that they had footage of an alien being disected in the mid 40s claiming it to be real, but when actually investigated it was created by the guy who made aliens the movie. lol. it wont be long folks when the guy who actually created this shall be known and will be laughing at all of you who believe in mythical creatures. lol. I hope you do know what mythical means. lol. peaches.

Ok…… You people are blind. It is not a drawing!! And it is on a sheet!!!! cheese and rice…..it does not look like it is painted… im not saying it is real but it does not look fake. Why havn’t we x rayed this already???? It would be simple to confirm. Why can’t mermaids exsist? We evolved from fishh… why can’t other things have to only to have a few fishy mishaps on the way through evolution????? Think about THAT NON BELIEVERS!!!

Bodies that have decayed in water don’t look like that. The felsh would be paler, and henks of skin would have sloughed off. I was on a search team diving in a lake, and I had the misfortune to find something. Bodies rotted in water are very, very distinctive, and I can assure you, this ‘body’ did not rot in water.
Commented by Jacob — January 19, 2008 @ 5:18 am
Pardon my typo: it should be flesh, not felsh

this is sooo lame. get over it. im only on here because i came across it when i was doing a project on mermaids and here is a bunch or no lifers arguing about some yucky things LOL!
Commented by sara — January 19, 2008 @ 12:15 pm
Mermaids are supposed to be half human half fish… right? well look at the skin and bones the bones look like they belong to a human and the skin is wearing away just like human’s. And the hair doesnt have to look real IT LIVED IN THE OCEAN its whole life! well into it was on shore but it wasnt alive then.
Commented by Peoples — January 27, 2008 @ 12:24 am
i dont think it really is a mermaid YUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!
Commented by Sakura Haruno — February 3, 2008 @ 2:44 pm
This is not real. First off all it would major headline news if something like this was discovered. Secondly, a mermaid wouldn’t have hair. Thirdly, if it died underwater and was washed on shore it would be bloated and not dried up as it looks now. Also, it doesn’t seem to have gills, which means a mermaid would have to come up to the surface to breath. Don’t you think we would have spotted them if they supposedly live not far below the surface? It’s fake and it shouldn’t fool you in any way.
Commented by John Willemse — March 4, 2008 @ 9:59 pm
I am not going againts anyone, but that does LOOK real. I am not saying it is, but it LOOKS real. The WHOLE thing looks real. It is creepy, yuck
lol
Commented by Nicolette — March 5, 2008 @ 1:43 am
I think it probably isn’t real. I also think that mermaids do have hair. And also, it is DEAD, so it wouldn’t need to use it gills lol…still, the pic is so fun to look at! I would agree about the whole major headline news thing that Sakura said. I am sure that there would be a big headline news around the world. So, it probably is a fake. It LOOKS real though.
Commented by Nicolette — March 5, 2008 @ 1:46 am

Well, for one thing I’ve always thought of mermaids to be in the same category as mythical creatures since no matter how much I think about it, it’d be impossible for one to exist.
BUT it’d be nice if it was. Whoever made this is really good, though. O.O Applause to whoever made it *^^*
