For me, this photo is real. Someone found it dead in a field and the case was handed over to the authority.

What this picture brought to mind for me was…”a face only a mother could love”.

it’s not an alien, or a freak, or horror story. it’s someone’s child.

Poor little mite. How anyone could just dump their own flesh and blood is beyond me. It’s not the baby’s fault he/she looks this way. I really hope he/she didn’t suffer.

Hi Claudia, In fact I got the full video but doubt whether it is good to show it to public. Thanks for the link anyway.
Really sad when looking at the baby.
Commented by Tony — January 5, 2008 @ 8:56 am
thats cruel to leave a baby dead in a field, even if it looks like that.
Commented by lisa le — January 13, 2008 @ 4:43 am
this Harlequin Baby picture is real, a fetus while still being in the stomach is diagnosed with something called Congenital ichthyosis. At birth the baby is born with yellowish skin almost as thin as paper which means it tears easily, the reason the eyes and the lips are red is cause they are constantly bleeding. Most are born with only 3 toes and finger. Most when born die after about 3 hours. The longest one has ever live is to about 23 year then it died. The chance of this happing is very very rare, like 2 every other year.

I’ve never heard or seen anything like this O.o I feel so sorry for the baby…..it’s more painful for it to go through the torment of people’s words, though, if it does grow up. T^T I don’t knwo if that sounded wrong or anything, but I meant it in a good way T^T
Either way…..O.O

Commented by abi — July 8, 2008 @ 12:31 am
Pretty sure that’s not a case of Harlequin Ichthyosis. This baby looks to have Cloverleaf Skull Syndrome, wherein the baby’s skull plates fuse prematurely in utero and the head tries to expand whatever way it can to allow for the growing brain.
Commented by Kari — October 7, 2008 @ 5:05 am
I’m almost positive that is not harlequin ichthyosis, Congenital Ichthyosis causes a scale-like coat of skin that is cracked and yellow that is over their epidermis. This baby’s body certainly does not share the same symptoms.
Commented by Eric — October 20, 2008 @ 8:54 am
That does not look like a Harlequin Baby, doesn’t have the same symptoms. You would be able to see scales on his skin but this baby doesn’t have that.
Commented by Gisselle — November 14, 2008 @ 2:45 am
That’s not a Harlequin Baby… It’s skin doesn’t show the distinctive characteristic of the large diamond-shaped scales, and the eyes, ears, mouth are usually abnormally contracted in cases of Harlequin Ichthyosis, whereas it seems like this child has the opposite… It looks more like a like a very severe case of Cloverleaf Skull Syndrome. Poor kid
Commented by Kirsten — December 9, 2008 @ 6:14 am
this is creep i am going to get night mares know but god pray for these babys
Commented by Gaby — January 23, 2009 @ 7:46 am
to comment number 17: well no, the eyes are just lumps of blood and the skin isn’t thin, its thick and hard, its a horrible birth defect and it only happens to people who marries people from the same family tree and the longest living harlequin baby was 24 hours not years
Commented by mai — February 8, 2009 @ 9:29 am
Okay everyone… I said it before, I will say it again, lol. This baby has Cloverleaf Skull syndrome. Harlequin Ichthyosis is a thick, cracked skin, the eyes are not “lumps of blood” but rather, the eyelids on Harlequin babies are often turned inside out due to the tightness caused by the overgrowth of skin cells. This baby has Exopthalmos related to the Cloverleaf Skull Syndrome (eyes bulging). And yes, Harelquin babies can survive infancy, although it is very very rare.
Commented by Kari H — February 9, 2009 @ 4:09 am
It’s just a dead human infant with a serious deformity. A birth defect.
Commented by Red crow — February 14, 2009 @ 6:29 am
this is sooo sad! i cant believe people would laugh at this oe think its funny or something. this isn’t an “alien” or a “scary story” its someones baby. this is horrible. poor baby. im so sorry the baby and mother had to go through with that. best wishes to the family. another thing about babys that have this is that within a couple days they die.. so the picture your looking at is when the baby was alive..
im so sorry baby. god bledd you, may you rest in heaven.
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxooxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
p.s. even if my baby came out like this i’d love him/her exactly the same and treat her the same and think shes the most gorgeous baby in the world.

When I see things like this it really hurts me. I have a child and I thank god everyday that she is healthy. I can’t imagine the pain the parents go through to see their child with conditions like that and most important what the baby goes through. Life is cruel sometimes.
Commented by Zasha — March 4, 2009 @ 6:31 pm
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. im sorry but how can you not laugh its sad and pathetic and all but come onnnnnnnnn
Commented by katiee — May 10, 2009 @ 2:09 pm
Until you have a baby of your own who passes away (which I hope never happens, but to some of us, it has)…. until then, let your immaturity keep on shining through.

OMG. i am religious and i think this baby deserves to have a life. I only wish that someone could find a cure or find a type of plastic sergery to help its life. This is a sad story. I only hope for the best

ok so i was reading these comments and one really stuck out.katiees number 34!what the hell how can someone laugh at that apperantly she doesnt have kids or is just could hearted!thats rude its not funny it is very sad to see a baby go through that!
Commented by melissa — September 5, 2009 @ 2:28 pm
I hope they found the person or persons who dumped this poor baby and left him to die like he was nothing. It was not his fault he was born with such a condition and all life is precious. The parent or parents should be caught and convicted of child endangerment, murder, and any other charges brought upon them. Death would be too easy to sentence them too they should get life in prison.

how sad……people like the person who left the comment # 34 will learn his /her lesson…as the others said …this person is so immature…well…still …. When i learned the baby’s condition ..my heart melted
Commented by jena — March 30, 2010 @ 5:16 pm
Well i dont really feel to bad about this because alot worse things could happen to you. at least the child died without haveing to see how horrible the world is for people like it. also. dont complain about people being immature because thats pretty much what they are aiming for……
Commented by Thesuperdude — April 10, 2010 @ 10:09 am
i dont pity parents of these children. the condition occurs if the parents breed with other family members, it is because of their perverted, self obsessed minds that these babys have to suffer. pity the baby, not the sick, SICK parent.
Commented by a random idiot — April 15, 2010 @ 3:02 am
You’re right, you are a random idiot. Thi condition can happen to any baby… whether their parents are consangious or not.
Commented by Kari — April 15, 2010 @ 9:58 pm
Babies born with this disorder does not necessarily mean that the parents were close family members, it just means that they probably came from the same bloodline. which could have occured hundreds or even thousands of years ago in some cases.
Commented by me — April 25, 2010 @ 3:10 am
OMG, that poor little child! i wish the best for anyone and everyone who gets a horrible disease like that. its tragic that some people laugh at them like they’re a joke. people have commented before and im comenting again: that poor child. god bless anyone who gets a disease like that
Commented by ??? — May 30, 2010 @ 1:15 pm
poor little baby….but why he can live? it must hurt
Commented by mommycry — July 7, 2010 @ 1:48 am
That poor baby- for one thing, it’s so little, and it is just cruel to have it showed off on the internet.
But to have it dumped in a paddock to rot and die?- that is worst.
The mother could not have loved it a bit. Sure, it would be hard on her- but beauty is only skin deep.
Commented by alison — August 9, 2010 @ 6:47 pm
I wouldn’t doubt it if the baby had died before being dumped in a field….
Harlequin babies rarely live long at all.
Commented by Qzzrbl — August 30, 2010 @ 4:54 pm
Actually the longest living harlequin sufferer to live is 26 years old, shes called Nelly Shaheen and she’s currently studying sports coaching at uni. No joke.
Commented by Gee — November 10, 2010 @ 1:22 am
SO agree with 4 and 7!! this shouldn’t be here….and this is coming from a mother…!!! take it off!!!! place under what the defect really is and not just another “horror story”…what’s wrong with you peeps?
Commented by ellie — January 12, 2011 @ 7:40 pm
Holy shit. This scared me.
Commented by Hannah — March 7, 2011 @ 8:08 am
That is not a Harlequin baby. HB are completely encassed in layers and layers of skin. It’s a skin disease and this baby on top is obviously is not suffering from a skin disease.
Commented by adri — May 28, 2011 @ 11:49 am
you guys are stupid, it wasnt found in a field or anything, it was born like this, it is a diseas that makes a newborn look like this. It is sad, they can only live for a few weeks.
Commented by Zabthekabbit — July 9, 2011 @ 2:58 am
