It’s not a giant bat, the bat is just much closer to the camera than the man, it may be a reasonably large bat, but its no giant.
Commented by Bethany — March 26, 2009 @ 6:46 am
i agree with taylor its just the bat close to the camera
Commented by stephanie — March 28, 2009 @ 8:01 am

Commented by jessi — March 29, 2009 @ 3:41 am
This is incredible! If it is real, it should put on National Geographic, Discovery Channel or Animal Planet. To make money dude!
Commented by Trecena — April 1, 2009 @ 9:34 am
it’s just camera angle.
Commented by lolcrayon — April 7, 2009 @ 10:24 pm
Bethany is definitely right; the bat may be relatively large, but it’s no giant.
And I personally think it’s adorable.

So, I’m still a little skeptical as to the truth in the matter of the bat. But I would love to have a bat that big. Albeit, it would take a LOT to feed it, I would still like it. To me though, it looks like a giant funky dog… But it’s still cute. I really want one. I just feel the face looks too angular?
Commented by Nikki — May 23, 2009 @ 12:59 pm
its a member of the fruit bat family, also known as a flying fox. they hang out during the day but, like cats, are more active during the night. they eat fruit and flower nectar hence the name. they have good eyesight but they use their sense of smell as the primary sense to find food. it looks like they’ve given it a bit of banana so that itll stay put. i totally agree with everyone else, its a camera trick done for a joke. its still funny though.
Commented by dan — May 31, 2009 @ 9:31 pm

Commented by Marplon — June 27, 2009 @ 8:21 am
its a real bat, u guys, its jus the position of where the bat is tha makes it look big, now if they showed a picture of the guy in the bak actually touching the bat then tha would be a different story
Commented by ?? — July 10, 2009 @ 10:12 am
no comment on the bat BUT…WHAT DA HELL A CROCODILE DOING ON HIGHLAND????? (look carefully behind the man) or am i having a sight problem?
Commented by Sir_Acap — July 14, 2009 @ 5:08 pm
Honestly, has anyone one of u been to INDONESIA?
I’ve pictures of the same exact bat from BALI, INDONESIA. The bats are bigger in size as is shown and they’re very friendly, esp trained by thier trainers. And yes, the camera’s angle is exagerrating its size abit too much.
Btw, If i’m not mistaken the background is in Bali, I’ve been there. Get a life or FACTs u guys…geesshhh…
Commented by Trisha — July 23, 2009 @ 1:15 am

it is a real fruit bat but a fake picture…
let me explain…
the bat is made closer to the camera and the person made to stand further away which results in something appearing huge

Commented by azaan — July 28, 2010 @ 1:35 pm
They’re called flying foxes or more commonly, fruit bats. We have lots of ’em here in the Philipppines they are extremely large bats. They feed on fruits. the largest stpecies that I’ve seen so far is the Golden-crowned Flying Fox. The lizard behind the man looks like an iguana. The camera ngle on this pic makes it look bigger than it actually is
Commented by Kim — October 31, 2010 @ 4:47 am
this bat is real i was skeptical at first but looked it up on youtube and there it was and it was just as large as in the picture just search “giant bat found in indonesia” on youtube and itll be there.

Commented by animal fan — February 26, 2011 @ 12:48 am
YEAH….and I can make my pet hampster look like Godzilla with the right camera angle and distance. Debunked, these are also seen on Indiana Jones and the temple of doom and they are NOT Vampire bats.
Commented by Den James — December 27, 2011 @ 4:14 pm
compare it to a dacsund maybe, look at the size of the Marshmallows in its mouth even if it were a Banana it is eating it gives it a real size gauge. This is also called a black flying fox.
Commented by Den James — December 27, 2011 @ 4:20 pm
That’s the real batman, whereʻs robin?
Commented by Tintinlover101 — January 4, 2012 @ 6:57 pm
That is MOST definitely NOT a real bat. The wing shape is wrong. There is a bumps sticking out of it that makes me think there’s an arm or a leg inside that costume. Bats are extremely important to the environment. They eat bugs that kill agricultural pests. They pollinate foods such as figs, bananas, mangoes and dates. They also disperse seeds that are critical to regenerating rain forests. Without them, the cost of the food on your dinner table would probably be more expensive and filled with pesticides. It’s ignorant things like this that cause people to fear bats and kill them. Most of the world’s bat species are threatened or endangered. In January, someone open fired with an AK-47 in a cave of a highly endangered bat species. Why? Because of ignorance like this. For you Americans, be ware. Two years ago, a judge in Kentucky gave 2 men a jail sentence for shooting and beating endangered bats to death. The men were arrested after conservation organizations united to offer a reward for finding this.

Does anyone think its strange how the iguana is in the picture. Its like half of the picture was englarged and they didn’t know that the iguana was there.
Commented by Chauntie — May 18, 2012 @ 12:56 am

Commented by rick — June 15, 2012 @ 12:28 pm
It’s a fruit bat, or flying fox. More common in jungles. If you would just look it up, you realize that these suckers grow to be huge. Animal science is FUN!
